I didn’t know eggs came in so many colors until I moved to California. I think they’re among the prettiest things in the world.

Someday I think owning chickens would be nice. I’d keep them pastured and collect the eggs every morning.

More places for me to try next time I’m in San Fran. Did I tell you stopped at Tartine when I was there this summer? I bought a loaf of bread and greedily ate it as I walked back to my friends’ apartment. I was so into the bread, I was bumping into things.

Basil on figs? I would have never guessed that combination. Figs are one of the biggest things I miss about California. It’s so hard to get good ones here. My neighbor had a tree and brought some to me in August, but the rains ruined the rest of the crop — it was heartbreaking. I guess all that’s left to do is plan a trip to San Fran during fig season. You and I will have to meet at this farm.

I need to read this book! I love knowing my food comes from — it’s actually really important to me. And though I make some exceptions here and there (like for white whole wheat and bananas), almost all my food is either local or from California. I even know some of the farmers who grow it.

I now have the worst fig craving ever.

I have these oranges up in toronto and they are the best oranges i have had except ones i picked off a tree in portugal! So crispy and flavourful and sweet… I get very frustrated with other oranges when these go out of season…

There’s really nothing like fresh strawberries to make it feel like spring. It’s even better once they get really good and sweet and all you want to do is stand there by the kitchen sink, washing one at a time, eating it and savoring it sweet taste.

Seriously, she’s amazing. She hasn’t churned out a bad truffle yet. She used the tea leaves from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s holiday tea blend, Winter Dream to make the white chocolate truffle. major talent!

I will so have to try this. Does it get fizzy like most sodas or is it flat? Honestly, I’ve never really like drinking things besides milk, water, and juice, but I’ll give anything a try once. There’s a Japanese grocery store nearby I’ve been dying to get to — maybe I’ll find a bottle of kombucha there.

The only reason I know what these are is because I randomly wandered into the big Williams-Sonoma in San Francisco around Christmastime and they were demonstrating how to make these. They were super delicious and I’ve been wanting a pan since. Is it awful that the first thing I can think of doing is filling them with nutella? Sometimes I get on such chocolate kicks…

I don’t work much with lemons — it’s simply not a flavor I love as much as others, but these are so beautiful. I may make them just so I can give them to people. And lemons are so perfectly in season right now too! And I can’t believe your oven is running almost 100 degrees hotter at times! That’s crazy. An appliance that malfunctions that much would challenge any baker.

Sadly, I don’t– ever since I was a teenager I’ve worked hard to convince her to teach me, but her pride got in the way. She wanted to be the only person with the recipe, and the one time I finally got her to “teach” me, she did so through a fast demonstration–nothing in writing, everything in ratios, and all in chinese.

This was taken over by the levee in the Greenhaven/Pocket neighborhood. It wasn’t until I left Sacramento that I finally had an appreciation for what the city offers, and the levee is is one of my favorite places.
