cousins vacation: hanford

July 2011 . Hanford Chinatown

“A large population of Chinese lived here during the construction of the railroad.”

We headed back from Yosemite tired and eager for a warm shower and comfortable bed.  After we had freshened up, we headed out to Hanford’s very own Chinatown and received a little lesson on our Chinese American heritage. Today, Chinatown consists of a one-block alley and was once home to Chinese immigrants in the late 19th century who came here to work on the railroad and on farms.

Once upon a time, this famed five-star Imperial Dynasty Restaurant served up Chinese-French cuisine.

And least I forget, a great big thank you to our hosts, who opened up their home (B&B-style) so that we could wash-up and rest up for the remainder of our travels.
