September 2011 . Candy Striped Figs
“Here, try it with basil.”
Knoll Farms is by far my favorite place to get figs. I had always thought that brown turkey figs were my go-to figs of choice, but one Saturday morning, I decided to try these little green ones and boy, oh boy! They were so sweet and juicy. I doubt I’ll be able to go back! Knoll Farms has opened my eyes with the many different varieties and simple ways to eat them. Besides eating them plain, I like to sprinkle shreds of basil on figs, cut in half. That was one of the best and most simple recommendations of food couplings I have had! Happy Friday!
I love figs beyond I can explain.
I’ve never tasted a fig before. Though these look scrummy!
Basil on figs? I would have never guessed that combination. Figs are one of the biggest things I miss about California. It’s so hard to get good ones here. My neighbor had a tree and brought some to me in August, but the rains ruined the rest of the crop — it was heartbreaking. I guess all that’s left to do is plan a trip to San Fran during fig season. You and I will have to meet at this farm.
